McClain County, OK (11/9/2020) – A commercial truck driver was convicted of distracted driving in Oklahoma after a fatal accident occurred on March 2.
The incident occurred on Interstate 35 in McClain County. A semi-truck driven by Johnny Spradlin, 58, was approaching a construction zone but refused to slow down. He crashed into a Chevy Traverse driven by 63-year-old Julia Kraus.
Kraus was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, a passenger in the Chevy, was injured in the crash with serious injuries. He was identified as 71-year-old James Kraus. He survived his injuries.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Spradlin looked down at his electronic log book for a moment before crashing into Kraus. Troopers also say that Spradlin’s truck hit another semi-truck.
Spradlin may face a manslaughter charge.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
