Lufkin, TX (7/25/2020) – Seven people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle rollover wreck in Lufkin Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened around 4 p.m. on State Highway 103 West near the intersection of FM 706. A Ford pickup truck driven by Christian Riley, 24, was facing west on Highway 103 waiting for traffic to pass before turning left into a private drive. That’s when a Chevrolet SUV driven by Ashley Ray, 30, failed to control speed and struck the Ford’s rear. The Chevrolet rolled off the roadway due to the impact.
Everyone involved in the wreck was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
According to the NHTSA, rollover crashes are more likely to result in fatalities than any other types of crashes, and that most fatal rollover crashes are single-vehicle crashes. This type of crash is ultimately due to excessive speeding, alcohol, and other negligent acts the driver may be at-fault for. For the case above, the investigation will reveal why exactly the driver of the SUV drove through a park and struck a tree.
