Houston, TX (September 4, 2019) – A suspected drunk driver killed a man while he was changing a flat tire on the feeder of 610 South Loop.
The car accident happened Tuesday around 8:00 p.m. near South Loop and 288.
According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), the suspected drunk driver was driving a Ford F-150, when he was traveling at a high rate of speed failed to maintain a single lane.
Consequently, he hit the rear of a disabled Ford Taurus and the victim as he was changing his tire. The victim was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he later passed away.
The identity of the victim is pending verification.
The suspect, John Richard Vasquez, was transported to Ben Taub and was determined to be intoxicated. Mr. Vasquez has at least three previous DWI convictions. As of Wednesday morning Mr. Vasquez has been charged with murder.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
