New Madrid, MO (7/7/2020) – A Texas man was killed and his two passengers are now injured after a single-vehicle wreck in Missouri.
The accident happened around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 55. According to Missouri SHP, Regino Puenta, 63, was driving his Cherokee Trailblazer north on I-55 when he lost control, ran off the road, and overturned his vehicle.
One of his passengers was ejected as a result.
Puente was pronounced dead at the scene.
His two passengers, Mayra Costilla, 38, and Carmen Gutierrez, 63, are now in serious condition at a hospital in Missouri.
The cause of the crash is still unknown. Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
Pending the result of the investigation, it will be revealed what exactly was the cause of the accident. Because the man was driving at the time of the wreck, there could be a possibility that he remains at-fault for the accident. If that is the case, then the surviving family of the woman may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim against the man’s insurance.
