Ackerly, TX (10/15/2020) – Three employees were injured after an explosion occurred Oct. 15 near Ackerly.
The incident happened at the Flower Grove Co-op Gin around 7:20 a.m. All three employees were inside an office in the gin when it exploded. The entire interior was destroyed and the outside was heavily damaged.
All three were taken to the hospital. Two were airlifted to UMC in Lubbock in serious condition and one was sent to a hospital in Lamesa.
Further investigation is being conducted but a fire marshal’s investigation found there may have been a butane leak no one knew about and was triggered when one of the men flipped a light switch inside.
Investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
