Lubbock, TX (12/18/2019) – Two people are dead and one is injured after a head-on collision resulted in flames in Lubbock Tuesday night.
The collision happened near County Road 5400 and Highway 62/82. Joshua John Hinojosa, 24, was driving his vehicle in the wrong direction when he collided into another car, according to DPS. Both vehicles spun while remaining attached to each other and came to a rest partially off the East side. Both cars then caught fire.
Hinojosa and Eva Margarita Corona, 39, were pronounced dead at the scene.
An 11-year-old passenger riding in the car was pulled out of one of the fiery vehicles. He was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
An investigation to this accident will prove essential due to the fact that a wrong-way collision resulted in flames. Because both cars erupted in flames, Hinojosa may be liable for any damages brought forth upon the second car due to the fact that he drove in the wrong direction.
In addition, the child passenger pulled from the fire may have sustained burn injuries within the serious injuries he sustained. Auto accidents remain one of the main reasons burn injuries are treated at hospitals. According to the American Burn Association, burn victims make up over 700,000 trips to the hospital emergency rooms each year and of those visits over 45,000 of those individuals require hospitalization.
