Hico, TX (July 31, 2019) – Two people are dead after three semi-trucks collided on US 281 north of Hico, Texas.
The truck accident happened Wednesday around 9:00 a.m. According to authorities a Volvo semi-truck was headed northbound and a Freightliner semi-truck was headed southbound.
The driver of the Volvo semi-truck crossed lanes causing a head-on collision with the Freightliner. The massive wreck caused the two trucks to burst into flames. A Mack semi-truck traveling southbound was behind the Freightliner tried to avoid the accident, but collided with the both 18-wheelers.
The driver of the Volvo has been identified as James Crabtree, 33, of San Antonio. The driver of the Freightliner was Ronald Ross, 59, of Millsap. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mack semi-truck, Elmer Saling, 66, of Lawn, was not injured.
The Texas Department of Public Safety encourages all drivers to avoid distracted, fatigue, and impaired driving as these are the top factors for fatal crashes across the state.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
