Two Drivers Killed in Two-Vehicle Wreck

Rusk County, TX (1/16/2021) – A two-vehicle crash left two drivers dead on Saturday.

The accident happened at 8:40 p.m. on State Loop 571 near Henderson. A Chevrolet Trailblazer was headed south on State Loop 571 while a Mazda CX-5 was headed north. 

The Chevrolet veered to the left, overcorrected to the right, and then back again to the left, which then sent the vehicle to a side skid into the northbound lane.

The Chevrolet and the Mazda collided and the Mazda caught fire. 

The driver of a Chevrolet was identified as Benjamin Slaughter Jr., 33, of Longview. Slaughter Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mazda was identified as Kirsten Charnell Herron, 26, of Pittsburg. Herron was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
