The accident happened around 11:25 a.m. on State Highway 16. A Toyota Corolla was headed south when it left the west side of the road. The vehicle overcorrected, which caused the Toyota to go into a sideways skid into the northbound lanes. The Toyota was then struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck.
The driver of the Corolla, 49-year-old Edward P. Worth, and a passenger, 48-year-old Chrystal G. O’Neal, were both killed at the scene.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, 36-year-old Laura Lugo-Vasquez, was taken to John Peter Smith hospital with injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Ismael Cervantes-Mendez, 37, was not injured.
Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
Skid accidents occur when tires do not grip the road. When a skid occurs, it is hard for the driver to maintain control of the vehicle, which leads to an accident.
