Two-Vehicle Wreck Left One Dead, Another Injured in Smith County

Smith County, TX (12/6/2020) – A man was killed and another driver was injured Sunday night after a two-vehicle wreck occurred in New Chapel Hill Sunday night.

The accident happened on FM 3226 at the intersection of State Highway 64. Deandre Jones, 23, was driving a Ford Focus when he drove through a stop sign and caused a Mitsubishi Outlander to strike the Ford on the right side. Both vehicles went off the road and into a ditch.

Jones died Monday in a hospital in Tyler.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to a Tyler hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

According to Texas law, every driver is responsible to obey any and all traffic laws, signals, and signs present on roadways. If not, it can result in major consequences, such as tickets, fines, and much like the situation above, an untimely accident.

Because the actions of Jones resulted in a hospital visit for the Mitsubishi driver, a personal injury claim may be entitled.
