Woman Killed, Child Injured after Deadly Wreck in Garland

Garland, TX (9/6/2021) – A woman was killed and a child was injured after a driver ran a red light in Garland on Monday.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. near Shiloh Road and Northwest Highway. 

A Honda Accord driven by 37-year-old Bobby Lee Murphy drove through a red light at an intersection and hit a silver Toyota that was headed west on Miller. The Accord also struck a Honda CRV that was also stopped at the red light.

The driver of the Toyota was killed at the scene. She was identified as 28-year-old Karla Rico. 

Her son, 10, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A woman driving the Honda CRV had minor injuries but was released at the scene.

Murphy was sent to the hospital with serious injuries. 

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
