Young Boy Dead after Deadly Rollover Crash

Amarillo, TX (12/9/2019) – A 14-year-old was killed after riding in a car that rolled over in Amarillo early Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 2:24 a.m. on Southeast 27^th Avenue and South Arthur Street when a Chevy Equinox driven by a 16-year-old lost control, jumped a curb, struck a fence, rolled the car, then ultimately struck a house and a parked truck.

The two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old male, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The 14-year-old boy later died at the hospital due to his injuries.

The 16-year-old driver fled the scene on foot. He was later caught and booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

According to the NHTSA, rollover crashes are more likely to result in fatalities than any other types of crashes, and that most fatal rollover crashes are single vehicle crashes. This type of crash is ultimately due to excessive speeding, alcohol, and other negligent acts the driver may be at-fault for.
