Young Woman Dead, Teenager Injured after Deadly Accident in Amarillo

Amarillo, TX (1/17/2020) -Evelyn Jasmine Rios, 18, is now dead after losing control of her vehicle and sliding into oncoming traffic early Thursday morning.

The accident occurred just before 8:30 a.m. on SE 34th Avenue when Rios lost control of her Jeep, slid into oncoming traffic, and struck a Mazda Tribute driven by a 17-year-old male, according to police.

Rios was killed at the scene.

The teenager driving the other car was taken to a hospital for treatment of possible life-threatening injuries.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.

According to police, speed combined with black ice on the pavement are what may have contributed to the collision. Inclement weather conditions are one of the many reasons drivers get involved in auto-accidents every year. From rain to ice to even fog, weather conditions can impair the senses of even the safest of drivers.
