Nicholas Alan Blanchette ORANGE COUNTY, TX (March 7, 2019) – An overnight crash on Interstate 10 in Orange County left one man dead and multiple vehicles in flames.

The collision occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Interstate 10 near FM 1136 heading eastbound. Nicholas Alan Blanchette’s 2008 Honda was stalled on the shoulder of I-10. Mr. Blanchette’s lights were not working. While he was waiting, he was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. The impact caused both vehicles to catch on fire. Mr. Blanchette, 24, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the 18-wheeler did not sustain any injuries.

All I-10 eastbound traffic lanes were closed for nine hours until while HazMat crews worked to clean the area.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in ten days.
