Harris County, TX (July 19, 2019) – A suspected drunk driver crashed into a pole and killed three horses in northwest Harris County.
The car accident happened Thursday at 10:45 p.m. on Highway 249 feeder near Grand Parkway.
According to deputies the driver of a Chevy Silverado was towing the horses in the trailer when he was speeding, lost control and slammed into an utility pole. The horses died on impact.
The driver was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
Authorities believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and was intoxicated. Investigators found alcohol bottles in the truck and the driver showed signs of impairment at the hospital.
The driver is likely to face DWI and animal cruelty charges for the deaths of the horses.
Police reports will be made available in ten days.
