head-on-collision-amarilloA fatal head-on collision crash left four people dead and one is seriously injured in Amarillo.

The car accident happened Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:25 p.m. on US 87, approximately 12 miles north of Amarillo.

Mario Alberto, 35, from Amarillo was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche and Trey Tipton, 34, from Dumas was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro.

According to an eyewitness Mr. Alberto was traveling south in the northbound lanes and crashed head on with a Mr. Tipton.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers, a five-year old and a nine-year-old, in the Camaro died in the collision.

A 13-year-old girl in the Camaro suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to an Amarillo hospital.

Early reports indicate Mr. Alberto was under the influence of alcohol.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in ten days.
