Austin, TX (8/26/2020) – A man was killed in a fatal five-vehicle wreck in North Austin on Wednesday, August 26.

The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. on FM 620. Jacob Byrd, 26, attempted to make a left turn out of Tin Tara apartment complex when he collided with a white Jeep Cherokee that was headed northbound. Byrd was ejected from his vehicle. A chain reaction of events then ensued: three other cars crashed, including a silver or white SUV that crashed when the driver slammed on her brakes, presumably in an attempt to avoid striking Byrd. As the driver pumped the brakes, her vehicle was hit by a black 2020 Acura Integra which, in turn, was rear-ended by a silver, 2010 Toyota Tacoma.

Jacob Byrd was pronounced dead.

Crash investigators will review all factors that may have led up to the accident and police reports will be made available in fourteen days.
