Santa Fe (July 7, 2019) – Several gas company contract workers in Santa Fe were injured in a gas line explosion.
The incident happened Thursday around 6:15 p.m. near Avenue M and 24th Street. Earlier in the day, CenterPoint Energy was notified about the problem. Dayton Pipeline, hired by CenterPoint Energy, sent contract crews to work when they struck a pipe causing the explosion. The explosion created a column of fire into the air with flames lasting for hours.
Two of the workers were airlifted with severe burns and were listed as critical condition. Three others were transported by ambulance to UTMB Health’s trauma center at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.
Fire departments from Santa Fe, Hitchcock, and Texas City were called to the scene. The fire was put out around 10 p.m.
