Texas is one of only a few states that does not have state-wide laws banning texting while driving. But does this reflect the sentiment of voters? Our survey results say no.

Last year we conducted research to rank distracted driving laws across the United States in order of strictness. Texas clocked in at 48 out of 51 states in terms of the strictness of it’s distracted driving laws. Texas is one of only a few states that does not have a comprehensive ban on texting while driving after a bill to do so was shot down in May 2015.

According to Distraction.gov’s Blueprint for Ending Distracted Driving, enactment and enforcement of tougher State laws is an essential step toward reducing distracted driving accidents.

Texas law makers voted against a state law that would’ve banned texting while driving…but do their constituents agree?

We surveyed actual Texas drivers to see whether they were in-fact opposed to a state-wide ban on texting and driving. We asked:

Currently, there is NO state-wide law banning texting and driving in Texas. Do you believe that there should be?

The key data points from the survey are displayed in the graphic below.

A complete breakdown of the survey results can be found on Google Surveys here.
